Celebrate the legacy of Oscar “Heavy” Johnson, a 1920s Negro Leagues legend and proud son of Atchison, through the newest mural by local artist Vaughn Schultz. This event is a tribute to “Heavy” Johnson’s inspiring journey and Schultz’s commitment to sharing our community’s stories through art.

Special Guests: Phil Dixon from the KC Monarchs and Atchison United and Atchison Art Association members will join us for the Ribbon-Cutting, honoring both the art and the history it represents.

Vaughn Schultz, renowned for his Jesse Stone and Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe murals, once again captures the essence of Atchison’s rich heritage. This mural is more than art—it symbolizes our collective spirit and the powerful bond between art and community.

Atchison United is thrilled to host Phil Dixon for an engaging presentation and discussion on “The Kansas City Monarchs and America’s National Pastime.”
