Atchison hosts two major festivals. Amelia Earhart Festival in July and the Muddy River Music Festival in September. Music alongside the Missouri River is an epic experience. Beyond music you’ll find restaurants and bars to accommodate any taste, from wine to whiskey to a local microbrewery. Theatre Atchison and The Atchison Art Association are our local arts organizations that puts on plays and events throughout the course of each year.
This yearly festival on the third weekend of July celebrates of Amelia Earhart and her accomplishments with a weekend full of family entertainment for Atchison residents and visitors. The 1st Annual Amelia Earhart Festival was held in 1997 to celebrate the 100th birthday of Amelia Earhart.

The Muddy River Music Festival has multiple stages set up along the beautiful riverfront in Atchison, allowing music to play continuously throughout the day. Listeners can turn their chairs from one direction to the other to listen to 6-hours of non-stop music. Enjoy food and drinks from specialty food trucks and local vendors.
